Summer 2010
SKETCHING IN WATERCOLOUR
August 10 – 14, 2009
Vaughn Butland

The watercolour sketchbook is a simple and exciting way to record your getaway experience. The supplies are simple and compact for traveling. During the week, you will learn to create simple, bold sketches and enjoy the freedom of watercolour. A high quality 9x12" or 8.5” x11" acid free 140 lb. watercolour sketchbook, one brush, a few tubes of paint, a small palette, a pencil and an eraser are all you need. Put this in a backpack and you are ready to go. Photos are great, but the camera takes in so much, that it's easy to gloss over the emotion and the feeling of the place. On the other hand, your own interpretation captures exactly what you really see. Drawing with the accuracy of Michelangelo or Picasso is not important. Your own colourful doodle is a very personal expression of the experience and that's what matters. This workshop is designed for painters of all levels. We will be working indoors and out, as the weather permits. Each morning will begin with a lecture and a demonstration. Following that, each painter will work at his/her own level with the instructor as a guide.
