SUMMARY:Opening: Yonder is the Sea: Wiebe & Beckley
DESCRIPTION:Mother and daughter duo\, Jennifer Wiebe and Lena Beckley\, celebrate the natural world through observational painting in oil and watercolor. Wiebe’s work captures the dynamic and playful relationship between sunlight and the moving surface of water. Beckley examines in detail the various textures found within local seashells. Each artist invites the viewer to consider the wonder and abundance of beauty found within and around Atlantic region coastlines. \n

SUMMARY:Opening: Conversatia
DESCRIPTION:Jennifer Pazienza & Paul Édouard Bourque \nTwo New Brunswick artists explore how nature inhabits us\, and how we inhabit nature. For Jennifer Pazienza and Paul Édouard Bourque\, the exhibition is the third in a series of three that presents a dialogue between and among their work. Their discussion centers on how individual and co-created artistic identity\, memory\, and time can influence art. Pazienza’s landscapes and Bourque’s images evoke a heightened understanding of the relationship between people and nature. \n

SUMMARY:Opening: Wildflowers & Water
DESCRIPTION:Amber Young \nAmber Young’s lyrical paintings depict how flowers expressively growing up out of wild fields or along the edges of ponds and streams can reflect in the water and grow up into expansive open skies. Inspired by her travels in Asia and her Canadian roots\, the artist hopes to combine her love of water and water reflections with an exploration of blossoms and wild foliage and the feeling of being within nature.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of Lesley Bartlett’s first solo show\, Living Large\, on July 4\, 5 – 7 pm. Finger food and a cash bar will be available. \nLesly Bartlett’s Living Large combats conventional standards of beauty in modern media and art by celebrating the beauty of large bodies. SUMMARY:Speaker Series: Manny Travers
DESCRIPTION:Taking up Space: Artist-Run Centres in the Contemporary Arts Scene \nTaking up Space delves into the unique nature of artist-run centres and how they behave in contrast to professional art spaces. Third Space\, the only itinerant artist-run centre in Uptown Saint John\, was first created as an organization by artists\, for artists\, but what does that mean compared to its creative counterparts? Learn more about how this spaceless organization operates and its relationship with the contemporary arts scene of Saint John through this talk\, hosted by Manny Travers\, Executive Director of the organization. \nManny Travers (he/him/il) is a queer multidisciplinary artist and arts administrator from Wolastoq (Fredericton) based in Menaquesk (Saint John)\, New Brunswick. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a minor in Visual Communications & Culture from Mount Allison University\, alongside a Certificate in Contemporary Management of Arts & Culture from the University of New Brunswick. He currently works as the Executive Director for Third Space\, an itinerant artist-run centre in Uptown Saint John. With a passion for accessibility and the arts\, Manny collaborates with local and regional organizations to support these causes\, including AANFA (Atlantic Art at Night Festivals Alliance)\, Atlantis (Association of Artist-Run Centres from the Atlantic)\, and Chroma (2SLGBTQIA+ organization). His artistic practice includes drawing and printmaking themed around purposeful incompleteness.

SUMMARY:Opening: Lucas Morneau's Ballad of the Queer Mummer
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of Lucas Morneau’s solo exhibition\, Ballad of the Queer Mummer\, on October 10\, 5 – 7 pm. Finger food and a cash bar will be available. \nLucas Morneau’s Ballad of the Queer Mummer critiques homophobia in Canadian and Newfoundland culture by addressing similarities between drag art\, and the Newfoundland Christmas tradition of Mummering\, the act of going door to door in costume and entertaining neighbours. By way of Morneau’s alter-ego\, The Queer Mummer\, photographic diptychs and crocheted costumes are used to celebrate how mummering is a queer performance act\, blurring the gender binary.
