SUMMARY:Opening: Living Large
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of Lesley Bartlett’s first solo show\, Living Large\, on July 4\, 5 – 7 pm. Finger food and a cash bar will be available. \nLesly Bartlett’s Living Large combats conventional standards of beauty in modern media and art by celebrating the beauty of large bodies. Representing characteristics of large bodies that are commonly approached with negative sensitivity\, Bartlett’s work dismantles these fears\, reinforcing the reality of beauty in average body types. As a result\, Living Large reconnects the romanticism of figure painting with real-life representations of people.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the second talk in our new Speaker Series. With decades of experience at the National Archives of Canada\, Joan M. Schwartz will bring her expertise in archives\, memory\, and materiality to talk about early photography and the stories it tells on New Brunswick. \nIn Search of Early Photography in New Brunswick\, with Joan M Schwartz\, Professor Emerita\, Queen’s University. Photography came early to the east coast cities and towns of British North America. Saint John and many smaller places in New Brunswick supported a thriving and innovative community of professional photographers. Their photographs have been lost to fire\, flood\, and neglect\, but their stories can still be told.  Come learn how we can uncover a history of early New Brunswick photography that is based not on images\, but on words.

SUMMARY:Moss and Mindfulness Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness and Moss: The Power of Art and Nature in a Time of Climate Crisis\nThe event is free but please register in advance as space is limited \n  \n“Stitching Connections\, Cultivating Harmony: Embrace Nature’s Presence\, One Thread at a Time.” \nLed by artist and climate advocate Danielle Smith\, Mindfulness and Moss is a four-hour\, community-based workshop exploring the intersection of art\, mindfulness\, and climate resilience. Blending fiber arts\, reflection\, and shared storytelling\, the workshop invites participants to slow down\, reconnect with nature\, and find grounding through creative practice. \nParticipants will engage in guided reflection\, gentle grounding activities\, and collaborative art-making using slow stitching—a meditative technique that encourages presence and imperfection. Each participant will create or contribute to a larger collective artwork known as the bed of moss\, symbolizing connection\, growth\, and active hope in a time of environmental uncertainty. \nThrough dialogue and shared experiences\, participants will: \n\nExplore how art and nature can foster personal resilience and emotional well-being.\nBuild connections within their community.\nLeave behind a meaningful “nature story.”\nDiscover pathways for engaging with local climate solutions.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Talks: Peter Von Tiesenhausen
DESCRIPTION:Peter von Tiesenhausen is a settler artist based in rural Treaty 8 territory\, in the community of Demmitt\, AB. von Tiesenhausen’s long-standing multidisciplinary practice staunchly eludes categorization; land art\, community-building\, steel sculpture\, environmental activism\, bronze-casting\, and wild blueberry propagation equally contribute to a complex synergy: a life lived as art. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEmerging in resonance with the natural cycles of the land he stewards and lives on\, von Tiesenhausen’s work contains an elemental urgency—a capacity to demonstrate momentary\, precise unities between celestial mechanics and rural common-sense: states in which every droplet of water reflects the sun. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
