AUGUST 27 – 30

A four-day festival of art, food and entertainment celebrating Sunbury Shores’ 55th year!

This is traditionally Sunbury Shores’ largest event, raising funds to sustain our organization’s outstanding programs and exhibitions as we create and support art and nature experiences in our community. This year, our event is a four day festival of arts and nature- with art displays of invitational, curated works open to all and ticketed events each evening. All this will be held in the historic venue of our own building, right on the beautiful St. Andrews harbor shore front. See below for event details and ticket prices.

About the Portrait Sketch Auction

The deadline to bid is at 6pm on August 27 and the results will be revealed during the Splendid Opening Event for Making Waves 2019 at 7pm.

The Portrait

Live portrait painting commencing directly with oil paint (rather than with a charcoal or pencil sketch) is an endeavor, developed in the late Renaissance, that yields a striking immediacy and sense of life.

The first part of the process is the grisaille – a monochrome under painting of the sitter, which acts as the roadmap or scaffolding at the heart of the ultimate image. The second stage is the application of paint from a full palette of colour. The combination can be achieved in its most charming and captivating manner during a single sitting.

The Sitting

The portrait will be conducted during a four-hour sitting with regular breaks. You may choose to have your portrait sketch made in the artist’s studio or on location at SSANC. Further details will be discussed with the artist. Please note that the sitting must take place before August 31.

The Artist

Claudia Munro Kerr grew up in Scotland and Spain and trained at the City and Guilds of London, the Art Students League of New York, the National Academy of Arts and the Grand Central Academy. She lives in New York with her husband and two children, and summers in Saint Andrews.
