About the Exhibition
“The research for these paintings focuses itself somewhere between pictorial and three-dimensional concerns; between the literal and the illusory. This series of geometrical shaped paintings play on the idea of perceptual illusionism and the illustration of volume. My interest for shaped canvas is in its ability to stand out, and to engage the viewer to see the paintings as an object instead of a flat surface.
My project presents multiple shaped canvases, which are assembled into a hexagon-like form. Each surface is individually built. Some canvases are painted with identifiable subjects, while others are textures or flat colours. When arranged together these two types of pictorial elements create an abstract world where the public is engaged to search for links between the presented imagery.”
