Pastel Painting with Anne Johnston

Think rich color. Soft pastels, being nearly pure pigments, are an exceptionally brilliant medium. Through demonstrations of technique, and painting with pastels, this introductory course will take you through basic techniques, from underpainting to the last stroke of colour. Anne Johnston has been working in pastels for 15 years and has
presented many pastel workshops over the past decade.

Practice at applying pastels will be intermixed with talk of colour, value, composition and light. This course will give you the tools you need to continue your own, or for further instruction. In this beautiful coastal area, we will paint outdoors, en plein air, weather permitting.

Demos, critiques, and a matting-framing demo will round out the course. Pastels, paper and some other materials will be supplied. On registration, a list of materials will be supplied. Participants should prepare to work outdoors with a carrying case, water and sun protection. We will break for lunch each day.
