Wood Carving 101 is the ideal class for those with no carving experience to challenge themselves with an exciting project! This weekend immersion into a traditional art form will cover all the basics from start to finish. We will work through one small step at a time both as a group and with one-on-one instruction. In the end, the instructor personally guarantees you will have a complete and handsome wood carving completed.

SSANC will supply basic tools required, woodblock ‘roughs’, and paint. Students are encouraged to bring a few small pieces of sound driftwood to use as bases if desired.

Instructor Bio

Since 2009, Timothy Griffin has been carving all over the northeast of Canada and the United States. He competes annually in the New Brunswick Wood Carving Competition here in Saint Andrews, as well as other shows and has won multiple “Best of Show” awards.

Timothy was first mentored by our local “Bird-man of Saint Andrews” Bob Carney and still works with him today as well as many other carvers including The Ward Museum’s Living Legend Floyd Scholz at the Vermont Raptor Academy.

“The carving in this class is the exact same carving my good friend Bob Carney started me with.  I had never carved anything and when Bob showed me what we were going to carve I immediately thought, “there is no way I can carve that!”   I will walk you through one step at a time just like Bob did with my wife Susan and I, and you will have a finished carving and a great weekend…just like my wife and I did back in 2009!”
