Breath – Experiential Invitation

Come for the full experience of the Sunbury Shores new installation piece ‘Breathe’ by Anne Manuel by becoming intimate with your breath. Breath plays an extremely important role in meditation practice for restoring and soothing the body which often gets forgotten in our busy 24-seven days. In the background, there is always breath, healing and renewing. Perhaps it might be beneficial to actually give attention, some awareness to this unforgotten, powerful, reliable ally and refuge for a short while in an hour long workshop guided by experienced mindfulness based stress reduction teacher, Karen Waddell. Karen invites you to join for connection and respite in the breath under ‘BREATH’ . TIME: 2pm Tuesday January 28

 Chairs are available, but please feel free to bring your yoga mat, cushion and blanket.

Karen Waddell

Karen Waddell is a globally sought after mindfulness meditation teacher for well-being and health. After a concussion 10 years ago, she left the conventional health care she was receiving to find relief and healing in other alternative areas.This is where she eventually came across the evidenced based 8-week course Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). It reinforced her belief in the mind-body connection for healing and was soon able to let go of the heavy medications she was prescribed for pain relief. The MBSR course is about using our perhaps forgotten innate resources bring out our best qualities beyond patterns that perhaps have caused great suffering to oneself as well as patterns that have caused pain and suffering to others. The course draws a mind that is open and un-fixated with a tenderness of heart. The result of her participation was so profound and transformative she decided to leave her successful professional acting career to peruse certification to teach MBSR herself. This included a short foray into Social Work studies before dedicating herself to a mindfulness teacher pathway at The University of Massachusetts Medical School and subsequently graduating from The Mindfulness Center at Brown University, RI. fully certified in MBSR. (as well as Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness).

Since 2017, Karen has continued to teach the MBSR course three times a year with a homogenous classroom benefiting a number of health issues. See more at her website: mindfulnessdimensions.com She continues to offer private one-to-one practice for mindfulness instruction towards dealing with stress, optimal health and well-being. Additionally, as well as mindfully coaching top executives to be more effective at work, she wrote and continues to deliver the mindfulness bi-weekly mental health wellness program to members at large at Accenture Canada since 2019. She is known for de-mystifying the benefits of mindfulness and meditation making it practical and accessible to all. She has been sitting on the advisory constituency Council of CAMH for the last five years contributing her expertise and experience towards creating more mindful mental healthcare policy decisions currently being made at the hospital. Karen is entering her 12th year of volunteering with the The Sashbear Foundation in various capacities including writing and delivering the highly insightful BPD Documentary series. ‘Having a Life Worth Living’.
