Hands On: A directed craft or art project for all ages

$25/H, 3 hours per session (1 hour prep/clean time, 2 hour session)

Last Saturday of the month, February – November 2027, 1 – 3 PM

WHAT? We are seeking individuals of any level to facilitate a session of our monthly program, Hands On: A directed craft or art project for all ages. This series focuses on the experience rather than teaching formal art skills; the goal is  a community social event rather than a class.

WHEN? We are looking for different individuals to facilitate a session on the following dates in 2027: Feb 27th, March 27th, April 24th, May 29th, June 26th, July 31st, August 28th, Sept 25th, Oct 30th, Nov 27th (Last Saturday of the month)

We welcome facilitators of any level of experience, artist and non-artist alike. This is an opportunity for:

  • experienced artists and teachers to pass on what they find fun about making
  • artists (or non-artist!) who may be new to teaching and want a chance to gain skills with instructing groups in a low pressure environment
  • anyone who wants to participate in a social activity or pass on a fun craft or hobby.

Facilitators will be expected to:

  • provide a short project description, a materials list, and basic outline for the session (we are happy to help with this)
  • provide an art/craft activity that is accessible to all ages and provides a fun, non-exclusive way to create.
  • be able to guide a group of people in activity and ready to adjust based on the individual
  • work with Sunbury Shores to create outline, materials list, and description for practical and promotional purposes

Your project idea should:

  • be able to be fully completed within 2 hours, including set up and clean up, and with simple instruction or direction
  • be a project that is smaller in size and easily portable
  • The 2 hours should include any setting/drying time or be easy for participants to take home.
  • Provide varying levels of structure or modifications so that it can be made more basic or more involved based on participants age, ability, and interest.
  • Use relatively common, non-specialized materials
  • Be safe for children (e.g. doesn’t require exacto knives, chemicals, etc…)

NOTE: We are not taking any projects that require participants to pick up the finished work at a later date or requires preparation to take home (such as taking wet paint/clay home in a bag or box)

If you are interested in facilitating a Hands On session, we’d love to hear from you! Please provide a brief proposal for the session via email to executivedirector@sunburyshores.org.

Instructor Opportunities

Every year we offer a wide range of courses, across a wide range of media, for all ages and abilities. In particular, we need instructors for outreach/after school activities, kids summer camp, seniors programs, hands-on craft activities etc. Subjects can include fine arts, printing, graphic design, writing, photography, digital arts, metalwork, ceramics, textiles/fibre, and more!

If you are interested in teaching, we’d love to hear from you!  For more information, please provide a brief proposal (ie. subject, skill level, number of hours/days) to artisticdirector@sunburyshores.org. We pay excellent rates, in support of artist/instructors as professionals
