Due to popular demand, and an extension of earlier Open Studio sessions with an artist (Feb 24, Mar 16), these new sessions are not topic driven and no artist will lead. Instead, it’s time for creation in a collaborative environment. Bring your own materials and artworks in progress and share ideas and skills. For all levels of experience. Date: July 1-5, 2024 Time: Monday – Friday, 9:30 am – 4.30 pm Price: $500 /Early Bird $475 (before May 15) This class has been developed in honour of the late Jay Dampf, a long-time instructor at Sunbury Shores. It’s an opportunity for his previous students and others to follow his teaching methods and style, with dedicated time for their own practice and individual work, as well as time for guidance from artist and teacher Theresa MacKnight. New students will enjoy the mix of independent work and personal attention. Students will bring their own work, either in progress, or ready to start. Shared studio time in the mornings will allow students to work on their own, with the afternoons dedicated to time with Theresa regarding questions around technique, composition, etc. as well as peer group discussion, critique and sharing of ideas. Theresa MacKnight is a highly accomplished artist and former art teacher. She has won numerous awards and been exhibited widely across New Brunswick and elsewhere. The Abstracted Landscape with Jay Isaac Date: Tuesday – Friday, July 9 – 12 Time: 9:00 am – 4:30 pm Price: $600 / $575 Early Bird before May 9 Material List and Outline This 4-day acrylic painting and drawing workshop will focus on how an observed landscape can be abstracted through colour and form. Short field trips will guide participants to observe the landscape, make preliminary sketches in situ, and then develop paintings in the studio. This course is recommended for participants with experience working in acrylics or watercolours at an intermediate level or more. Upon registration, participants will receive a list of course materials. Note: This is a scent-free workshop. A prolific artist, curator, and writer, Jay Isaac will share examples of his work, and the work of contemporary and modern artists to illustrate the use of landscape and its components as starting points for abstraction. Journaling with Mary Kircher Date: July 19, 20, 21, 2024 Time: Fri. 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Sat & Sun 9:30 am – 4:30 pm Price: $350/ Early Bird $325 (before May 15) Journaling can take many forms: sketchbook, diary, tapestry diary, and collage as you capture memories and develop ideas. Fibre artist Mary Kircher will teach how to make a unique accordion-style journal as versatile as your imagination. Mary will share her techniques for creating journals, incorporating collage, tapestry, stitching, and writing, resulting in creative displays for fibre artists, book lovers, creators, and makers. Participants are asked to bring found objects that are relatively flat including fabric, feathers, stones, paper ephemera, etc. Mary specializes in hand weaving and custom dye techniques. With a Master’s in Art and Design from North Carolina State University, Mary has taught many workshops and exhibited her work both regionally and internationally, including at Sunbury Shores in August 2023.
